Microsoft Dynamics GP Reporting Tools

Microsoft Dynamics GP has many different reporting tools for all your user needs; these reports allow you to pull out critical data and create reports that allows the reader to understand the data and view it differently. The following are the most common reporting tools that are readily available out of Microsoft Dynamics GP:

  • SmartList Designer

SmartList Designer allows users to modify existing or create new SmartLists as well as build Excel Refreshable Reports.  Excel Reports connect directly to Dynamics GP data which auto-refresh, ensuring users view their most up-to-date business information. With SmartList Designer you can quickly and easily create a new SmartList from an existing SmartList, export data into Excel to enable viewing from a tablet or smartphone, create new Excel Refreshable Reports and publish created Excel reports to the shared location on the Network, SharePoint or Outlook 365.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)

SSRS offers a full-range of tools that allows you to create, deploy and manage reports for your company; it offers comprehensive reporting functionality for multiple data sources. Reporting Services work within the Microsoft Visual Studio environment and are fully integrated with SQL Server tools and components. With SSRS, you can create interactive, tabular, graphical, or free-form reports from relational, multidimensional, or XML-based data sources. Reports can include rich data visualization including charts, maps, and sparklines. You can publish reports, schedule report processing, or access reports on-demand. You can select from a variety of viewing formats, export reports to other applications such as Microsoft Excel, and subscribe to published reports.

  • Navigation List

The Navigation Pane list windows allow you to locate information quickly and easily, there are two types of lists (1) master record lists and (2) transaction lists. In either type of window you can customize the columns that are displayed in the list as well as the order in which they appear. Master record lists contain records with no associated date (ex. Customer List), you can search for active records; whereas transaction lists are based on dates (ex. Sales Transactions), you can search by date or exclude historical records. In both cases you can search for a specific word lookup and limit the records being displayed. The report list outlines all available reports for all report types (Microsoft Dynamics GP reports, Excel reports, SSRS, SmartList favourites and other reports) for the associated Navigation series.

  • Word Templates

Word Templates are extensions of Report Writer reports with the added benefit of visualization to meet your company’s formats and standards. Word Templates gives users the ability to create cleaner, more professional looking reports right out of Dynamics GP, maintaining the same functionalities and features of Word. Microsoft Dynamics GP comes with a template generator that allows users to create Microsoft Word Templates for any Dynamics GP report or additional products.

  • Excel Refreshable Reports

Excel refreshable reports maintain the same functionalities and features of Excel but the data links directly to the real-time data within Dynamics GP. Once the data connection between Dynamics GP and the Excel report is setup, the data can be updated with the click of a button. In SmartList there’s a publish button where you can create an Excel Refreshable report. Excel Refreshable reports can only be created based off a query that was built using a SQL view. If you use a SQL table in SmartList Designer, you will not be able to publish your excel report.

  • Management Reporter

Management Reporter is a reporting application used to create, maintain, deploy and view financial statements. It allows you to create a variety of financial statement reports and show the data the way you it want it shown, pulling directly from Microsoft Dynamics GP. Management reporter has three main components (1) Report Designer; used to create the report building blocks and generate a report, (2) Report Viewer; used to organize and view the reports, and (3) Web Viewer; displays reports in a web browser and does not require installation of MR to view reports.

  • Report Writer

Report Writer is a tool you can use to create and customize reports.  With the Report Writer, you can change the appearance of existing reports, make global changes that affect all reports, or create your own new reports.  The Report Writer tool is also required for the development of Word Templates.

Third -Party Solution
