The new grid control feature is currently available to Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management users if the feature has been enabled in the Feature Management Workspace.
Grid Control is an implicit personalization, meaning Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management will automatically track the grid control features used during a user’s session (page dependent) and will restore to the last known features once the user returns to the page.
Available uses with the new grid control:
Microsoft has introduced a grid footer that will display the number of rows for a list grid as well as column totals for numeric columns.
To have the footer visible, click on the ellipse at the top right of the grid and select Show footer.
Once Show Footer is enabled, a footer will appear at the bottom of the list grid with a total number of rows in the grid.
This number will recalculate if the number of rows changes due to a filter.
For numeric columns, the grid footer will also display the total value of a column if applicable. To show a column’s total, right click on the column header and select Total this column.
The column total will now show on the footer and like the row count, it is dynamic and will recalculate based on any filtering.
For those familiar with Dynamics AX 2012 or earlier, you may recall the ability to type basic mathematical functions in a numerical field and have the system calculate the value to populate the field with. This has finally joined the available functionality of Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management.
All mathematical equations must start with = so the system recognizes that it is a mathematical equation. After entering the equation, press tab, press enter, or move to another cell with the mouse to have the system display the calculation value.
A list of supported math symbols can be found here.
Left click the mouse and drag the column to the new location.
If using a laptop with a touchpad, double click (tap) on the four dots but instead of lifting your finger after the second click (tap) drag the column to the new location before finally lifting your finger.
For more on the New Grid Control feature, see Microsoft’s documentation here.
As with any new feature, it is important to enable and test it in a non-production environment prior to enabling in a production environment as new features may conflict with other features or customizations.
