Setting Up and Applying User Options in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations
Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations offers some various color themes and element sizes to enable users to create a custom interface for themselves. The User Options page allows you to control basic features and behavior in your environment.
To begin the setup, go to the navigation bar where you will find a gear wheel icon, click on it and then select User Options.

Note: Even though most customers, commentators, and consultants still call it Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations or D365FO, Microsoft now technically licenses it as Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management.
The User Options are broken down into 4 main areas that we will review:
- Visual
- Preferences
- Account
- Workflow
Visual
With the Visual tab, you can select a color theme to apply to the system and to determine whether you’d like larger or smaller element sizes on your pages.

Preferences
Preferences will allow you to select default values that are used every time that you open Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations. The values include the company, initial page, and default view/edit mode. The view/edit mode determines whether a page is locked for viewing or opened for editing every time that you open it. You also have the options for the language, time zone, and date, time, and number format.

The preference tab also includes several miscellaneous preferences that vary from release to release. Perhaps the most useful is to change the “Enable document handling” to YES, so you have the ability to attach notes and documents to a number of modules including sales orders, purchase orders, items, etc.

Account
This section has a variety of options that control account functions, such as which account in the Active Directory it’s linked to, and how emailing and electronic signatures are controlled. Most of these settings are normally controlled by your administrator. You can also adjust your user name and other account-related options on this page.

Below is an example of setting up your Electronic Signature:

Workflow
This page allows you to control how notifications for workflow will be delivered to you. You can also use the Delegation FastTab to control exactly which workflows and what time periods you want to use to delegate your workflow tasks and approvals.
