Warehousing in Dynamics 365, Finance and Operations

One of the top new features for Warehouse management in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations is the Warehousing App. This app was designed with the warehouse worker in mind and can increase productivity and efficiency when handling fast paced warehouse scanning. The design is fluid, adapted for touchscreen use and available on multiple application platforms for download (Google Play, Microsoft Store, Zebra App gallery)

In comparison to what existed before now with previous versions of Dynamics AX, the warehouse module supported mobile devices through the Warehouse Mobile Device Portal (WMDP) which must be installed on an on-premise server in the Warehouse. Warehouse tasks are then performed using a handheld device that accesses a locally hosted website. This locally hosted website requires a web browser that uses the HTML 4 protocol (Hyper Text Markup Language) which has become obsolete, and the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) to render contents on your device screen. A challenge with this is that the look and feel are static, hence the resolution of your mobile device must be considered before setup.

With the new app, the acquisition is free, setup is straightforward, and no additional infrastructure is required. This app enables deeper integrations with devices which means device features such as the camera, GPS (global Positioning System) and storage can be used. Please note, every interaction with your Warehouse application reflects automatically in your D365 environment without a need for human involvement.  Not only is this app the next cool thing in Warehouse management, it supports no fewer than 40 business processes.
