Nova USA Wood Builds a Foundation for Innovation, Automation, and AI with Encore and Dynamics 365 Business Central

When Microsoft announced the retirement of Dynamics GP, Nova USA Wood needed a modern ERP platform to support its highly integrated technology environment and position the business for future growth.

Working with Encore, Nova successfully transitioned to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, creating a stronger foundation for reporting, automation, and innovation. Today, the company supports a $60 million business with a lean finance team, automates key financial processes, improves visibility across the organization, and leverages AI-assisted development to accelerate innovation.

Company Overview: Nova USA Wood

Nova USA Wood specializes in high-end tropical hardwood, softwood, and thermally modified wood products used for siding, decking, interior trim, paneling, soffit, transportation flooring, and other industrial applications. The company sources wood from regions around the world, including Southeast Asia, New Zealand, South America, West Africa, and Northern Europe, and sells to manufacturers and distributors throughout North America.

Technology has always been central to Nova’s approach to business. President & CEO Steve Getsiv, who has a background in computer science and software development, has spent years building technology tailored to the company’s specific needs. Steve has long viewed technology as a strategic advantage. Prior to Nova, he developed LumberIQ, which supports the industry’s unique needs from lumber inventory management and purchasing to sales, manufacturing, and e-commerce.

Together, LumberIQ and Microsoft Dynamics GP formed the foundation for Nova’s technology environment for many years. As the company grew, the systems became deeply integrated, providing the visibility and operational control needed to support a lean organization and growing business.

A Technology-First Business Ready for a Modern ERP Foundation

As Microsoft announced the retirement of Dynamics GP, Nova needed to identify an ERP platform that would provide the foundation for the company’s next chapter. Because GP was deeply integrated with LumberIQ and the company’s broader technology ecosystem, any replacement would need to support existing integrations while supporting future growth.

Nova needed a modern platform capable of supporting cleaner data, stronger integrations, improved reporting, and emerging technologies such as automation and AI.

One realization quickly became clear as they evaluated options,

We all realized that GP was not going to be a solution long term. What we didn't realize at the time was just how good Business Central was.

As the team explored Dynamics 365 Business Central, they saw an opportunity to modernize the business’s financial backbone while preserving the investments they had already made in LumberIQ and their broader technology strategy. Business Central’s modern architecture and data structure aligned closely with Nova’s long-term vision for automation, accessibility, and innovation.

Transitioning to Dynamics 365 Business Central with Encore

Nova’s transition to Dynamics 365 Business Central was supported by a long-standing relationship with Encore. Having used Dynamics GP since approximately 2010, Nova and Encore built a trusted partnership grounded in a deep understanding of Nova’s business and technology environment.

When the time came to migrate to Business Central, Encore worked closely with Steve to develop a strategy focused on practical business outcomes and reducing unnecessary complexity.

Initially, Nova believed a complete migration of historical financial information might be required. Through conversations with Encore, the team identified a far more efficient approach that would preserve access to historical information while simplifying the project and reducing costs.

“We went through Encore’s Accelerator plan for the transition, and it worked great. The team helped us focus on what we actually needed to do, not what we thought we needed to do.” – Steve Getsiv, President & CEO, Nova USA Wood

Steve credits Encore’s team with helping Nova rethink its approach and avoid unnecessary effort,

“Encore has some amazing people. Great technical resources. They helped us understand what was possible.”

The migration was completed in late 2025, giving Nova the modern ERP foundation it needed while preserving the investments it had already made in its broader technology ecosystem.

Building a Stronger Foundation for Data and Decision-Making

One of the most immediate benefits of moving to Business Central was improved access to information.

D365 Business Central integrated effectively with Nova’s existing systems, which enabled the company to move information more efficiently between operational and financial environments while improving visibility across the organization. Financial reporting, cash flow analysis, forecasting, and business performance insights became easier to access and leverage.

“The structure of Business Central made it easier to integrate with the systems we already had. We can move information between platforms, analyze it more easily, and use that data to improve reporting and decision making.” – Steve Getsiv, President & CEO, Nova USA Wood

For Steve, one of the most surprising outcomes was the quality of the underlying data structure. Clearer, more accessible data made it easier to connect systems, build reporting capabilities, and support future automation initiatives.

Transforming Financial Processes Through Automation

With a strong foundation in place, Nova shifted its focus toward improving efficiency across key financial processes.

The company identified several areas where manual effort continued to consume valuable employee time. Rather than accepting those tasks as part of day-to-day operations, Nova began looking for ways to automate them.

Voucher processing became one of the most impactful examples.

Using automation, Steve developed processes that ingest information from scanned documents, PDFs, and emails, automatically categorizing and coding transactions based on historical activity and established business rules. Tasks that once required substantial manual intervention could now be completed significantly faster and with greater consistency.

Cash receipts processing delivered similarly significant improvements.

Since Nova operates both wholesale and e-commerce businesses, payment reconciliation has historically consumed substantial time every day. Applying payments and reconciling transactions were repetitive processes that required ongoing manual attention.

Cash processing used to take two to three hours every day. Now it’s essentially a couple of clicks.

For Steve, these improvements represent much more than convenience,

“Cash receipts and voucher entry are the two big areas where we’ve seen the biggest time savings.”

By reducing repetitive manual work, the finance team can focus on exception management, analysis, and activities that deliver greater business value.

Supporting Growth Without Increasing Overhead

Today, Nova operates a business generating approximately $60 million in annual revenue while maintaining a lean finance team consisting of a controller, an accounts receivable specialist, and an accounts payable specialist.

Supporting that level of activity requires systems capable of creating capacity without adding complexity.

Business Central, automation, and Nova’s broader technology investments have helped the organization achieve exactly that. Rather than hiring more people to manage increasing transaction volumes, Steve continues to look for ways to make existing employees more productive.

“With the way we look at it, we can grow the business without having to add people, because we have the right platform.”– Steve Getsiv, President & CEO, Nova USA Wood

Creating a Platform for Continuous Innovation

While Nova initially moved to Dynamics 365 Business Central because Dynamics GP was approaching retirement, Steve quickly discovered that the migration would unlock opportunities far beyond ERP modernization.

As AI-assisted development tools rapidly matured throughout late 2025 and early 2026, Nova found itself in a position to take advantage of those technologies much sooner than many organizations because it already had cleaner, more connected business data available throughout the business.

“The move to Business Central helped put us in a position to take advantage of these technologies when they became available.” – Steve Getsiv, President & CEO, Nova USA Wood

Nova found itself uniquely positioned to capitalize on emerging technologies because it had already invested in modernization,

The biggest lesson for us is that AI works best when you have the right foundation underneath it. Business Central provides structured, accessible data, so it becomes much easier to use AI for analysis, automation, reporting, and new business capabilities.

Within months of implementing Business Central, Nova accelerated development initiatives across the business, modernizing reporting systems and enhancing e-commerce capabilities. The combination of cleaner data, stronger integration capabilities, and rapidly advancing AI-assisted development tools enabled projects that once required significant time and resources to be completed much more quickly.

Since the migration, Nova has developed 30-40 new automations, reports, and workflows, with additional improvements added almost weekly.

Steve sees this transformation as the beginning of a new chapter,

“Every project that we’ve ever dreamed of, we can basically build in hours.”

Positioned for The Future

For Nova USA Wood, the migration from Dynamics GP to Dynamics 365 Business Central was never simply about replacing an aging ERP system. It was a strategic investment in better data, greater efficiency, and future innovation. With Encore’s support, the company preserved the value of its existing technology investments while creating a stronger financial foundation for automation, reporting, and AI-assisted development.

Today, Business Central serves as the financial backbone of a connected technology ecosystem that helps Nova innovate faster, scale efficiently, and prepare for what’s next.
