The Prairie Arctic Regional Council of Carpenters, Drywallers, Millwrights, and Allied Workers (PARC) is a union of skilled tradespeople throughout Saskatchewan, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. They represent 2800 members across an area of 4.7 million square kilometers; placing their resources in different contract positions throughout Canada.
PARC had used Microsoft Dynamics CRM on-premise since 2013 to manage their union members in an XRM scenario. Encore’s Dynamics CRM implementation allowed them to manage their members’ health status, relationships between union members, contractor relationships, and much more. PARC also used on-premise servers for the rest of their systems, including their employees’ email. Unfortunately, on-premise system deployments didn’t meet all of PARC’s requirements for employee accessibility. “The opportunity to work outside of the office was never afforded to us. We would patch into the server, which didn’t always work, and if the server was down, we weren’t able to access certain applications”. Says Jason Rowe, Executive Secretary Treasurer at PARC.
In 2016, thanks to advancements in the Microsoft cloud, the highly distributed nature of their business, and the amount of travel required by key members of their organization, PARC made the decision to migrate certain key business systems to the cloud. Their transformation has involved migrating to Dynamics CRM (365 for Sales) in the Cloud, migrating employee mailboxes to Office 365, and investing in fully-loaded Microsoft Surface packages for their business.
“Leaving terra firma and getting up into the cloud has allowed for more collaboration between our staff members. Especially for somebody like me who travels a lot – it’s great to be able to connect back into the office remotely and seamlessly. A few of the others that have the Surfaces travel as well, and they have expressed happiness with them. All-in-all, this move was exceptionally good for us”, says Jason.
It’s nice for a complicated organization like ours to have a partner like Encore; they always take the time to understand what we need before they start telling us what they think we should do.
“Our working relationship with Encore has been really good over the entire course of the project. It’s nice for a complicated organization like ours to have a partner like Encore; they always take the time to understand what we need before they start telling us what they think we should do. All of the divisions at Encore that we’ve met over the last couple of months have been really good. They’ve been thoughtful; really responsive to our needs, and timeliness has been good for us in terms of getting what we need, when we need it, and how we need it.”
