The Position

We have an opening for a Human Resources Generalist who will participate in a wide range of initiatives related to talent management, including, but not limited to; recruiting, retention, employee engagement, learning and development. The position will be responsible for corporate onboarding, content updates, policy manuals and forms updates, benefits administration, and statistical reporting. The HR Generalist will provide ad hoc support to managers in review of policies, performance management, professional development, career progression and resource planning. This role will continually evolve and presents the opportunity to participate in researching, evaluating, recommending, and implementing new programs.

The successful candidate will understand the critical importance of privacy, accuracy, and compliance as it relates to employee information, company policies and employment standards. Reporting to the Chief Administration Officer you will model the corporate values, embrace the company culture of diversity and respect, while maintaining a positive disposition.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Participate in recruitment process including preparation of job postings, review of applications, preliminary screening interviews and candidate communication as appropriate.
  • Prepare job offers for select candidates; initiate background checks as required.
  • Follow established process for new hire welcome communication and onboarding documentation.
  • Contribute to culture and wellbeing programs within the corporate talent initiative.
  • Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of the Manager Guidelines booklet and associated forms.
  • Review and update existing policy manuals and contribute to new policy development.
  • Maintain internal personnel documents such as the organization chart and employee directory.
  • Monitor vacation entitlements and usage.
  • Develop a good understanding of company benefit plans.
  • Follow employee offboarding process upon termination and conduct exit interviews.
  • Track due dates for employee probation periods and subcontractor renewals; follow up with appropriate action.
  • Participate in periodic review of corporate compensation strategy.
  • Record and report various facts, statistics and KPIs related to human resource business unit and organization.

Desired Skills & Competencies

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Human Resource Management / Payroll training a definite asset.
  • 2+ years’ experience working in a supportive role in human resources, payroll, benefits administration.
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws, compliance, and regulations.
  • Growth mindset, sense of curiosity, drive for continuous improvement.
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office; quick study on new technology applications.
  • Responsive to inquiries; adaptable to change and unpredictability.
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be fluent in English – both verbal and written.
